Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots want to thank the best fans in all of baseball for a tremendous 2017 season. While it didn’t end the way we all hoped, it was an All-Star Summer to celebrate our 20th Season!
The Somerset Patriots hosted the 2017 Atlantic League All-Star Game at TD Bank Ballpark on July 12th. 8,175 fans came out for the mid-summer classic that featured a Revolutionary War theme, special guests Willie Randolph and John Sterling, amazing entertainment from the ZOOperstars and BirdZerk, and the biggest post game Fireworks Show in team history.
The Somerset Patriots led the Atlantic League in total (342,231) and average attendance (5,185) for the first time in team history.
2017 marked the Somerset Patriots 20th Season in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. The team celebrated the milestone by recognizing the Top 20 Patriots players in team history as voted on by fans and expert voters.
A record 12 players were signed by Major League organizations, most reporting to Triple-A. Pitcher Tyler Cloyd had his contract purchased by the Seattle Mariners and reached MLB just weeks after joining their organization.
This year four former Somerset Patriots were in the Major Leagues, setting a record for most alumni on MLB rosters in a single season (Buddy Boshers and Nik Turley with the Minnesota Twins, Chris Marrero with the San Francisco Giants, and Tyler Cloyd with the Seattle Mariners). Cloyd became the 18th Somerset Patriots player to be promoted to Major League Baseball in the franchise’s 20 seasons.
The Somerset Patriots were the Liberty Division First Half Champions to claim a league record 18th Half Title. With it, the Patriots made their record 14th appearance in the Atlantic League Post Season.
Somerset Patriots fans showed up in force for Game 3 of the Liberty Division Series to set a new league record for a playoff game with 8,131.
Former Somerset Patriots player Tim Raines was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame with the Class of 2017 in July. Raines played for Somerset during the 2000 season, becoming the first Patriots player to become a Hall of Famer.
Through the entire year, and of course our 20 seasons, our All-Stars and our MVPs have always been our fans, our marketing partners, our season ticket holders, and our group leaders. You make us who we are every day and we can’t do it without you.
