Waldorf, Maryland - The Somerset Patriots (35-27) came from behind to defeat the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (25-36) 6-4 Wednesday night at Regency Furniture Stadium.
The Blue Crabs opened the scoring in the bottom of the first on a run-scoring double play groundout from Teodoro Martinez. Somerset tied it up in the top of the fourth on an Aaron Dudley RBI double.
Southern Maryland responded immediately in the next half inning to regain the lead. A solo home run from Cory Vaughn (11) to left field and a two-out RBI single from Angelys Nina got the Blue Crabs in front 3-1.
Somerset began it’s comeback effort in the top of sixth on a Kyle Roller (7) solo home run to right-center field. The Patriots later the took their first lead of the game in the top of the seventh. Danny Dorn got Somerset in front with a two-out, two-run single before Dudley increased the lead with a two-out, two-run triple to deep right field.
The Blue Crabs got a run back on a run-scoring wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning, but would get no closer.
Vince Moleksy (3-1) got the win after three scoreless innings of relief. Sam Runion (0-2) yielded four runs over 0.2 IP to take the loss. Ryan Kelly (10) tossed a scoreless ninth to earn the save.
Somerset clinched the 2018 Liberty Division First Half Championship earlier in the day after the New Britain Bees fell to the Long Island Ducks.
The Patriots and Blue Crabs conclude their four-game series Thursday night. Left-handed pitcher Rick Teasley (3-3, 3.48 ERA) takes the mound for Somerset against Blue Crabs’ righty Paul Clemens (1-4, 4.68 ERA). First pitch at Regency Furniture Stadium is set for 6:35 p.m.
