All-Decade Team: Designated Hitter Josh Pressley
Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots have announced that first baseman/designated hitter Josh Pressley has been selected to the 2010-2019 All-Decade Team.
“My years in Somerset were some of the most fulfilling of my career,” said Pressley. “I’ll carry the memories of my teammates, coaches, the front office, and the fans with me for my lifetime. I am honored and blessed to have represented the Patriots.”
Pressley originally joined the Patriots in 2007 after time in the Tampa Bay Rays, New York Mets, Kansas City Royals, Boston Red Sox, and St. Louis Cardinals organizations.
For his five seasons in Somerset, Pressley is among the team's all-time career leaders in several offensive categories. He became a fan favorite for his leadership, determination to win, and tremendous clutch hitting and power that made every one of his at bats a must-see event.
While a lot of his production came during the 2007-2009 seasons, including Atlantic League Player of the Year honors in 2008 and back-to-back championships in 2008 and 2009, Pressley was still among the team’s best in his final two years in 2010 and 2011.
In both seasons, he finished with a team high in home runs, reaching 22 in 2010.
The only year he was a Patriot that the team did not make the playoffs was the 2011 season, but he still produced All-Star numbers with a .297 average, 16 home runs, and 75 RBI.
“It is hard to put into words how meaningful Josh Pressley was and still is to the Somerset Patriots organization and to me personally,” said Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie. “On the field, Josh was a dominant force. He completely dedicated his mind, body and soul to being the best player, leader, and teammate, and took himself and his team to unthinkable peaks. ‘Press’ not only took pride in winning, but he took pride in winning the right way with the right people. He worked hard in the clubhouse to make sure everyone knew what it truly means to be a complete Somerset Patriot. Off the field I see Josh as not only a true friend, but honestly more like a brother. He will be a part of my life forever and I am truly blessed because of that.”
Overall, Pressley was a five-time All-Star, a two-time champion, and just one of four Patriots selected as Player of the Year. 2008 saw one of the best seasons by any Atlantic League player when he won the batting title with a .354 average, set a team home run single season record with 30, and added 173 hits and 101 RBI.
Voting took place online and over 5,000 fans casted their ballots for their favorite players at each position from January 3rd through April 15th. The Somerset Patriots All-Decade Team will be announced over the next few weeks.
