Bridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots have announced that outfielder Aharon Eggleston has been voted as the #11 Patriot in team history.
The Top 20 Patriots presented by AT&T is a season-long promotion as part of the team’s 20th Season. The Top 20 Patriots were voted on by the fans and ranked by an expert panel of team officials, media, and long-time fans.
“It’s amazing, especially considering how many great players have come through Somerset over the years,” said Eggleston. “There have been Major Leaguers and so many other talented ballplayers. To be considered among them is very special.”
Eggleston, a three-time Atlantic League All-Star (2013, 2015, and 2016), is currently in his fifth season with the Somerset Patriots. In addition to his All-Star selections, Eggleston has been named a Post-Season All-Star in 2013 and 2015, as well as a member of the 2016 Atlantic League Red, White, and Blue All-Defensive Team.
“The Patriots are a top notch organization. They do everything right and really treat you like family. It’s why a lot of guys keep coming back because they know it’s a great organization that wants your time here to be special, but also get you to a Major League team. They root for your success when you are here or where you can go from here,” Eggleston said.
In 2016, “Eggy” hit .310 with eight home runs and 55 RBI. His batting average ranked second on the team and seventh in the league, while his .388 on-base percentage led the team and ranked fourth in the league. Additionally, Eggleston finished second on the team in runs (73) and hits (142). Defensively, he recorded just two errors in 203 chances in the outfield.
The San Diego, California native enjoyed a strong 2015 as well, finishing second in the league in on-base percentage (.390) and seventh in batting (.289), while also tallying five home runs and 46 RBI.
Eggleston continued his strong play into the postseason that year, leading the eventual Atlantic League champions with nine runs scored, including a .333 average, two home runs, three RBI and a team-high .529 on-base percentage.
The lefty outfielder’s 2013 campaign included a .294 average over 120 games with eight home runs, 56 RBI, 12 stolen bases and a league-high 93 runs scored.
Eggleston’s consistency and high caliber of play on the field, along with his graciousness off the field, has made him one of the most popular players in team history.
“The fans have been behind me 100% since I got here. They’ve always been so welcoming and kind to me. It means a lot to me that they had such a big part in me being honored on this list,” added Eggleston.
Going into this season, Eggleston had a Somerset career .290 average with 22 home runs, 162 RBI, 38 stolen bases and 286 runs scored in 417 for the team.
